This is a comment I left on a post in my bud ChanuX’s blog ~SeeJay
Damn underachiever. They’re all alike. CEH!.. Anyway, I saw you guys battling it out over this thing on my best bud ChanuX’s blog like it was a fight for world peace! I didn’t bother commenting at first because us geeks are usually too lazy for that non-tech drama. But then I heard you drop the word CEH.
I hope you know that to become a CEH, you’ve got to register somewhere (don’t ask me where). Why? Because a CEH’s skills can wreak havoc in the cyber world if they go dark side. But what about those uncertified black hat hackers? Does the world give them a shot to register and turn gray hat? Nope! I’ve got proof.
I’ve been hooked on that (you know what) field since I could reach my keyboard. I devoured every scrap of info I could find. Then I scored an awesome gift from a foreign friend who was in Sri Lanka for a while. Let’s just say it was a goldmine for the CEH exam! What else did I need? I dug in, finished it all, and now here I am, with a solid grasp of penetration tests, vulnerabilities, exploits, and all that jazz…
One day, I spotted Singapore Informatics advertising a 5-day Certified Ethical Hacker course for 80,000/=. I wanted to prove myself! As a knowledge junkie, I just wanted to tackle the CEH exam, no fluff. But I wasn’t about to drop 80,000 to learn stuff I already knew! How about just paying for the exam itself, exam fees, no lectures?
So I called Singapore Informatics and asked the nice lady on the phone if I could take the CEH exam there without sitting through their classes. Guess what? They shut me down instantly! “No way! Nobody in Sri Lanka could possibly have enough know-how to pass the CEH exam unless they learned it from us!” I wished I could prove them wrong, but how? They wouldn’t even let me take the challenge! Maybe I’m not up to snuff for the exam. Fine! I’d fail. But I’ve got a right to try!!!
They stole my chance to use my skills to help society. Why? Because they can’t imagine anyone could “self-study” anything! Just like those FIT@UOM folks bashing BIT@UOM. Think about it, why not let those BIT guys in and show them how FIT you are? :p There’s no rule saying the IT world is only for people who aced Sri Lankan A/Ls or O/Ls.
So… FIT crew, quit stomping on people’s human rights and focus on your own studies! Not every exam can be nailed by cramming books all night or camping out in tuition classes like the A/Ls in Sri Lanka! 😆
