23 years…

23 years… published on 133 Comments on 23 years…

So here I am, back on blogging after a long silence. But this long break was not because of the fact that I didn’t have anything to write. I think its fair to say that it was because I had so much to say that I couldn’t really figure out how to manage them all in to this little blog of mine. There were so many interesting things happening around me. They’ll always be in my memories. (Naah! I’m pretty sure I won’t forget them. So no! you won’t be reading them here hehe!)

Also its been a crazy semester. Just finished the last paper of the 2nd year final exam yesterady and I think I’m feeling kind of relaxed now. It’s funny, when I looked forward at this moment few weeks ago I never thought I’d be able to happily blog about the end of the exam 🙂 But it went really well and I’m pretty satisfied with all the papers I had to answer. Considering all the crazy things I went through in the past few months I should be glad to be able to blog about it like this…

Anyways! yes! It’s my 23rd birthday today. I’m not quite sure what I’m feeling right now… But when I look back at the last round around the sun, I notice something different than the ones before. I see that I have learned so much about life on this ride. I saw how some things that seem to matter so much in our lives has no real meaning… I saw how easy it is for people to completely ignore the things that really matter in life… I saw how unexpected life can be… I realized that we should not be having too much expectations in life.

And also a really good outcome of all the problems I faced is that I got to make out the people around me. I realized who really cares about me, and who… well, lets say “doesn’t give a sh*t what happens” 😛 Not that I’ll be treating the latter party differently(being angry with people for too long is NOT something I’m very good at) But its good to know that they will not be there for me when I need them. I was glad to see that there were people who believed on me. People who cared about me even when I was not in the usual “guy who saves the day” mode. And I pity the poor souls who tried to enjoy the show when I was down. Hope they’ll be able to stick to the mentality that they did the right thing. 😛

So after all these incidents I’m still doing pretty fine to start the next year of my life. And this time with a little more knowledge about life 🙂 there’s a saying “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.” There were many of those moments in the past few months and I really gained strength from them. I will be facing good times and bad times as usual but I’ll know enough not to worry too much about any of them. I was having a great life with pretty much everything I really needed. I stupidly forgot that truth about me sometimes and I’ll try my best not to do that mistake again… because now I know, It’s good to be me! 😀

Yippee! Got myself a new Lappy!

Yippee! Got myself a new Lappy! published on No Comments on Yippee! Got myself a new Lappy!
Since I’m reading for the BSc Honors in IT at SLIIT. I had no other option than moving to a boarding place near the campus. And after moving to the boarding place all i had was ma good ol’ thinkpad lappy which was not so cutting edge anymore 😛 I had my desktop pc at home but moving the beast to the new place was too much trouble. so I had no choice but to use my IBM thinkpad for few weeks until i get myself a new lappy. I checked the local dealers for few models and quickly realized that I’m too broke to buy an IBM thinkpad which are IMO overpriced in SL. correct me if i’m wrong but I really don’t think those lenavo thinkpads got the same durability of the old IBM thinkpads. Any lenavo users there???

So i decided to go with another “well known for durability” brand, ASUS! yep! luckily they got a new series of Notebooks which are priced reasonably considering the quality of ASUS products. Not to mention there were HP and Acer laptops which were more cheaper but i didn’t fancy having anything other than ASUS since I was such an ASUS fanboy 😀
So I decided to buy the ASUS X51R series lappy which had a Core Duo 2.0Gz processor. And I was able to get a 7.5k discount from the Epsi guys (our local ASUS dealers) thanks to Suchetha 🙂

The first thing I did just after coming back from Epsi was repartitioning the 120GB HDD removing the evil Proprietary OS from my precious lappy. when partitioning i created one big (90gigs) partition for the /home and 1gb for swap. Rest was used to create three more partitions. One for my primary distro and the other two for installing testing versions and betas.
So now i’m back on my old track and the only prob i have is the lack of time. Not because SLIIT stuff are keeping me busy (actually theres nothing much to do these days, maybe its because this is the first semester), but because i have a ton and few more kilos of stuff to do. As most of you guys have noticed, my blogs have been deserted during the past few months. I’d love to get back to the old schedule where i posted 10+ new articles per week, but i really don’t think i’ll have that much of free time in the upcoming years 🙁 so i’ll try to post at least once a week. well, it’s better than nothing right??? 😀

Finally its done! 😀 yep, I’ve finished moving all ma previous posts from the old blog to the new site. phew! now its time to add some widgets and give ma identity to the blog 😉 well, I had this idea to move to my own domain from the wordpress.com and now its done. since this is a blogger hosted site i can edit the layout without paying more bucks so here I am with ma new style. hope you people will like it 🙂 If you’ve ever read ma previous WP blog(s) you might know that I’m a big fan of Garland(Famous Drupal/WP theme). Well, I *did* find the blogger version of the Garland theme but then again I thought it would be nice to have a change 😀
OK enough for now, I’ll be back with some more boring news 😉

84,000 Hits! My blog Rocks!

84,000 Hits! My blog Rocks! published on No Comments on 84,000 Hits! My blog Rocks!

Blog stats! It’s always the coolest thing about blogging. Having a big number, I’m sure all ma fellow bloggers will agree with me, That blog hits for a blogger is like an ice cream for a kid! They both love to have more and more, and some more. I felt so glad to be a blogger, In early days, when I was having 10 or 15 (or very much less than that) Hits per day to my blog, I couldn’t be happier when I had 120 hits one day, But now my blog got way more than that, I still love to have more and more. Why are we bloggers love to have more hits to our blog? I don’t know about all, but I think many bloggers including me, feel that we are helpful to the others, It’s really nice when we can share our knowledge with another knowledge seeker, It’s the human nature, to feel special (happy) when you help someone with knowledge or opinions or… anything. I think that “happy feeling” is the gift from the nature to the man who is helpful to the others. And when people show him their grace by leaving a comment..nothing could be better.

This is the way I feel about my blogging life. I think many bloggers think the same way while some others may thinking in a complete different way. Who knows? may be you do. If you are a blogger, what do you think you are blogging for?

Day B4 SF day 2006

Day B4 SF day 2006 published on No Comments on Day B4 SF day 2006

So Chanux and I came to the road with Randy and got ourselves in to the bus at about 4.30AM hoping Randy and Asanka will come to Colombo tomorrow to celebrate SF Day. It was about 9.30 AM when we get down at Majestic City. We were expecting LKLUGers all over the place. But not even a single Linux guy was present. We saw the EPSI guys(EPSI computers) arranging their self promoting campaign instead of promoting free software. Chanux SMSed BUD to find out what’s going on. BUD was busy coz he was lecturing at APPIT (an IT school) so he sent the phone number of Narada Center to call Ven.Meththavihari thero. We tried that number and found that no one was there to answer the phone. So we walked here and there in MC and kicking our heels until we call the Linux center which was the next number given by bud. when we were on our way to Linux center Bud called us and asked us to come back to MC as he was there. So we came back to MC and were introduced to the EPSI guys as LKLUGers by BUD. And after that introduction we were free to use all those “cute” Asus laptops and other powerful Asus hardware to install configure Linux or even play Awesome 3D games. At about 3 PM Ven.Meththa came to MC. Ven Meththa was very nice to us and he was there until 5.30PM and went to TLC (the Linux centre) we stayed at MC until 7.00 and spent our time to give those invitations to the guys and gals to come to the SF day events which is going to happen next day.
We met BUD at 7.00 and he He happily Spent money for our dinner at KFC.Thanks a lot BUD! There after three of us went to the Linux center at Nugegoda. There were 5 of us at that time in TLC including Ven. Meththa and a guy called Ruwan. We did lot of work to finish completing the of Ubuntu Kubuntu and Xubuntu CD’s which were given free to the ppl next day. BUD left TLC at 1.30 AM and all others crashed at the TLC Hoping to have a Nice day of FREEDOM.
